Opelousas, LA

Two 90 mile back to back days. The shoulder was beautiful — past beautiful for over half the day. Then old, cracked surface with little traffic. And then it was respectful drivers - very nice. Rather a glorious day until the wind started coming straight at us. It was hard to pedal. I thought I saw white caps on the watery rice fields. Beautiful calm scenery — until the wind. We saw our first crayfish traps in the rice fields.

I got hungry just thinking about Cajun rice and crawfish — where is the gumbo? Did I tell you there was honeysuckle making the delightful ride even smell better. Oh yeah it was 40 degrees this morning when I started riding — ya’ can’t have everything!

I couldn’t resist taking a picture of a muddy bike at our hotel. There are a lot of construction workers staying in the recent hotels. I’m sure it has to do with Katrina.
