Crossing Into Arizona

The Colorado river is the border. Can you tell from the light it was early in the morning?

A good day. I felt pretty strong. I actually passed a few folks today and rode in the middle of the pack. Alas I got hot at 52 miles and sagged the last 8. There are three women with pressure ulcers and two with heat rash/sun poisoning, someone else with some sort of allergic reaction. Pushin’ the limit isn’t my style this week. I guess I only do that at work - I’m on vacation.

Each day has it’s own challenges. Most of the less strong riders are so nervous we can’t eat breakfast at 0600. Today we rode 30 miles on I-10. That’s enough to think about being nervous. The reality is it was a wonderful ride. The grade is better as we climbed 2634 feet. The shoulder was wide and the nearby mountains shielded the early morning squinting.

I continue to enjoy myself as I hopefully tone up. The favorite stop today was at a little grocery store where we took our pictures with John Wayne.
